Re: 2000 Bongo 2.5 TD auto transmission Sticking between 1st and 2nd causing hold light flashing and restricted speed
I have done the extract and refill method but only got just under 3 litres out, partly due to being parked on an incline but even when I jacked up the bongo and made it level hardly any more came out so going to do another extract and refill of 3 litres in a few months time so at least a fair bit of ...

Would also be worth checking the ATF level too, before you do any refresh. It could be low. There are guides on how to do this but engine needs to be hot and a good 20/30 min run, and it is checked whilst the engine is running and in park.

Re: 2000 Bongo 2.5 TD auto transmission Sticking between 1st and 2nd causing hold light flashing and restricted speed
I would start with the simple (and possibly only thing you could do without taking to a garage) - which would be to change the ATF fluid. You could simply extract (using a pela / electric pump) the ATF thru the dipstick tube, measuring how much you take out. And then put the same quantity you ...

Re: Copper sump washer not in place for forthcoming year....
I have done on an old car, and it did drip. I doubt it will come loose which is obviously the main concern, but personally (and I know not what you want to hear), I’d put a washer on it. As long as you use a very clean container with no dirt / debris to catch the oil, you can simply refill using the ...

Re: Thermostat Housing flange 2.0 Torque setting
Thanks Geoff that is very helpful.
Wondering if i need to drain the entire system to do this, it says on that page to drain it but as its near the top i would assume i can just catch whatever comes out as best i can and then refill the expansion tank.

Coolant level
Had my bongo 2.0 in for a few bits and they inspected thermostat. Didn’t get chance to replace it as part didn’t arrive but thermostat housing went back on, with a bit of sealant for good measure. No Leaks there that I can see. However coolant has been very slowly (1/2mm) reducing when I use it ...

Noise on startup
Had an oil change done and thermostat looked at, 2.0 petrol all done by a bongo specialist. On collecting the bongo , started it up and as I accelerated I heard a bit of what I can only describe as exhaust blowing noise, but maybe it was a belt sort of chattering. It happened 3 or 4 times, each time ...

Re: Prospective purchase
I cant see any underseal either, although it has not had any advisories on the MOT for rust issues other than a general corrosion on the underside one. But nothing that points to a specific area / mounting point etc. You think £8.6k is a good price bearing in mind it needs some work to the rust ...

Prospective purchase
Been to see a bongo, a few pics attached. Not sure if it’s. A good one or not, appears solid underneath and no advisories for rusty bits underneath , just a general surface corrosion one. Tail gate rusted at bottom in one area and wheel arches starting to show as per pics. 100k miles, 2005 model ...
