In response to your helpful suggestions I have checked the carbon canister of the fume control system & cannot see any signs of loose connections but will reinspect for possible hose splits. I am not sure how to inspect item SB 42 - 720 but will have another go locating it.

Does anyone know if the larger Vango Sapera (£569) inflatable awning would be suitable for a bongo. This model fits gutter heights of between 230-290 Centimetres. Would the increased angle be too much for water to flood the gutter of a bongo (Height 182 centimetres).

Welcome to the forum :). Are you able to pinpoint roughly where the smell is worst? When I remove my filler cap, I get a rush of air out which suggests its under pressure rather than vacuum. A leak somewhere in the vapour control pipework could be the problem. Try taking the cap of after a run ...
