Starting problem

Since yesterday my Bongo has had trouble firing up. When I turn the key it seems as if there is no power and it just runs out. When tried again, blipping the accelerator fired it up, no problems running when started and no warning lights on the dash.

Any ideas anyone?

You'll get better advice from someone more techie than me, but there is lots of previous stuff on subjects like this. Try entering 'glow' in Search to get threads on glow plug problems with starting (or glow plug relay). Then maybe 'fuel AND filter' to see if its anything like blocakge causing fuel starvation. Good luck - I'll watch this thread out of interest too in case it happens to me - and don't panic, it may well be something 'routine' and easily fixed!

Sounds like your glowplugs are failing as it runs OK once started.

Got my batteries checked at the local halfords.
They were supposed to be putting out 560 Amps. 1 was 230 and 1 313.

Batteries changed problem solved

I've had a starting problem since I picked mine up and am still waiting for the garage to call me back in to repair it.
It's intermittent and very very odd.
Sometimes it starts first time (but then the electric window won't work or one of the blinds) or it won't start but everything else works. It just clicks - all the lights come on ok, it just doesn't turn over at all.
It must be electrical I guess.

Hahahaha !!! I hope not.

It's getting worse though - it's almost every time I start up now whereas before it was only once or twice a week. Very frustrating.

And no, I'm not petrol thank goodness !!!

When it clicks and the starter doesn't even try to turn, it usually means the contacts/brushes in the starter are on their way out.

You can get the starter overhauled for around £100.

Mines started doing this, the age old solution is to tap the back end of the starter motor (under driver seat on side of the engine) with a hammer. The shock normally gets the contacts working again. Though you'll still need to get it overhauled.

How this relates to your other electrical gremlins I don't know.

You could do a search on 'starter' to get some historics on the issue.

Could possibly be a starter motor problem. Apparently the terminals on the solenoid get worn and cause intermittant connection trouble. I had this, just got progressively worse. Picture the wife and I jumping up and down on the seats until she started. (The Bongo that is).

New starter cost me £200 including fitting, it was new, not reconditioned. Shop around, because there is a big differance in prices out there.
