In-car radio woes
I'm looking to install a new radio + speakers in my Mazda Bongo. Halfords, rather predictably, are hopeless.
Can anyone suggest a specialist in or near London?
Many thanks

I fitted a new stezza a few weeks ago and the sound was MUCH improved. Unless your fitting super ear blowing speakers, fit the stero first and see what the sounds like. I can have the volume on max with hop hop happy hard core ravey davey blasting and the speakers cope no problems.
You just need a mazda to ISO converter.. simply plug in and then fit the stero Halfords charge £15 for these...

Hi Ozric
I am going to fit a new stereo in my Bongo, but the plug that goes into the back of the Bongo's JVC unit doesn't fit my new one. The item on Ebay, that you gave the link for, doesn't look as if it will plug in either - am I being stupid or do I need 2 new leads. Must admit I haven't been to any shops yet?

speakers
fitting new speakers into the front doors can be a bit tricky as there aint much room depth wise. i ended up taking the speaker plastic moldings out to hold the speakers in and screwing my speakers into door panel then found it rase it from the door about 1cm which just about works. When looking for speakers look at depth and look at what room you have. There is a bolt right in the wrong place behind speaker which dictates what you can fit.
Audiobahn speakers are awsome and tend not to be deep i mannaged to fit alpine 5 1/4 inch top of the range ones with allot of bodges in front as dont fit without pushing door pannel out. But sound is unbelievable spx range and bought them from bigbuycity.com i think off ebay anyhow £120-£140 instead of £350-£400 in uk to get them to fit you do need some skills in front its a pain and you need to make brackets in the back to mount them i used mdf or just bold them onto door inside skins but this isnt best way. Did i mention they sound amazing!!!!
Stereos double din is way to go and find allot of latest stuff on ebay from hong kong, pioneer is best but is £2000 it does have EVERYTHING built in. Im just upgrading my phone and been reading sites about them and there is allot of talk about new ar stereos coming out which will intergrete with phones better so im waiting a little longer.
best of luck. hope this helps.
more info on this forum link just scrole down to Stereos, concoles tvs and fitting etc put into on how i did it there or trying to.

The ebay link is for a standard Mazda plug. The Mazda end has 2 plugs and the converters usually have 1 plug that both the Mazda plugs plug in to, plug plug plug. Have a look at the wiring to the Stereo and look for wires being added or spliced. I'll pop out to the van and take a pic of the standard Mazda plug for you.francophile1947 wrote:Hi Ozric

Standard Mazda Bongo Stereo Connections.

radio woes cont'd
Thanks for the tips but I understand nothing about wiring etc and would rather leave it to the experts than get it wrong.
Bongo is the second love of my life. I would not take risks with a loved one. Hell, that'd be like Dr Turkleton operating on his dear Carla.
Know what I'm shaying, shaying?
So, I'd be grateful for a list of telephone numbers.
Cheers

Thanks Ozric
I've just checked and I already have the lead shown on Ebay - it's the bit from the black bit to the stereo I need. The plug that fits into the old JVC cassette player is larger than the current ones.

Re: speakers
Bluetooth radios are available now that will mute and play your phone through them, about £200 to £350. No need for a car kit.kitebeach wrote:Im just upgrading my phone and been reading sites about them and there is allot of talk about new ar stereos coming out which will intergrete with phones better so im waiting a little longer.
