Bongo height and car wash query

Hello to all of our uk bongolier's. Just got my newly imported bongo on road today. First thing I did was to bring my bongo to my local ARC car wash and they totally refused. I could see there were signs of 1.98m high, but the attendant told me that the brush could damage the vehicle. My bongo is the topless one. Also this puts the bongo on the negative side because it won't fit all car parks in and around europe. Puts me off really on my first trip behind my bongo. Some morals here please. Thank you.

Javednazeer, Moral of the story is never take a topless Bongo through a car wash

, the results would speak for themselves, and secondly these beaut`s deserve hand washing with plenty of pampering and spoiling not scrubbing and scratching in one of those mechanical mashers

As for the car park restrictions, this just means you get to spend more time driving your little beauty around looking for the right spot

Hi ETI well I have got a flat top bongalow and it goes thru the Tesco car wash no probs and does a really good job too to be fair, but if you have a tow car as I do then take off the covers before you go thru or the wash will do it for you. At the mo I have about 10 round electric socket covers "found" at the wash and three tow ball covers. It does not touch the aerial at all. I normally wash it myself but cannot get at the roof so Tesco oblige and at the mo it is buy one posh wash get one free. Happy motoring

To my cost I discovered that not all auto car washes are bongo friendly.

Lots of us have lost their reversing mirrors (I found out after I'd lost mine!)

I use soap (shampoo) and a sponge and it dosn't matter how hard I try the reversing mirror wont budge. + a little TLC is all ways useful wouldn't go anywhere near a CAR WASH with my baby it's too good to be scratched by them.

Although those mechanised carwashes are convenient,would it really be worth chancing it in one of em? Have you ever seen the damage they cause when go wrong? Thats not including all the scratches they leave,i know they look fine when you drive out and the vehicle is still wet,but wait till it dries,and the sun shines on your paintwork! I,d rather leave it dirty, at least you know its undamaged under the grime. With regards to washing, (the bongo)If its not convenient to wash it at home with hot water and a sponge(autoglym car shampoo) I generally use morrisons jet wash,plenty of pre wash,take it easy with the brush(bongo lacquer seems quite fragile)A quick chamois down,jobs a good un'.

Welcome javednazeer - stick with the Bongo, you'll find plenty of mad enthusiasts here. And the +s of having a Bongo outweigh the -s. Look at it laterally. Washing it the old fashioned way is fresh air and exercise + you'll do it much better than the car wash and save £. Dont know where you live but up here in Manchester I reckon I can get by without running up against difficult car parks - head for the hills, no low rise car parks there

Before we discovered the world of Bongo we had been looking at a Mercedes Vito conversion, simply because they roll in at just under 2m and hence there would be no trouble with car park barriers and multi-storeys. (sic)

When we decided on the Bongo we suddenly thought about that 2.2m, then realised that for two years we had never been in a height-limited carpark!

I couldn't get under the barrier at my local dump on Boxing Day (I had considered that before I bought the Bongo). All that meant was that the Bongo had to be parked in the space set aside for tall vehicles at the dump entrance and the wheelie bin into which I put my stuff (and which easily went into the Bongo) had to be taken out and wheeled past the huge queue of cars waiting their turn to get into the dump. Easy peasy and I was done and out before the queue had moved a few feet. For serious jobs there is another dump not v far away that allows tall vehicles in. Concentrate on the positive I say

Dont do it!!!

It was cold other day so i got tempted talked to the nice lady and we bothe decided it would fit. it all went fine till rollers reached the back when i heard a big bang. waited till end then got out to see dammage and found my rear reversing mirror missing. it had been torn off

spent the next 20 mins trying to figure out where it had ended up. I beat the local hedges, i climbed up the rollers as thought it might have gotten stuck in them it had just vanished. Now totaly freezing and misrable drove off trying to figure out where the hell it could have gone then it struck me as i was on the roof of the bongo

Stopped the car and sure enough there it was stuck at the back ontop of spoiler.

in answer NO THEY DONT DO WELL IN ROLLER WASHERS

Not all barriers that say they are 2.0M are!

We use the following when confronted by a height barrier.

Mrs D. gets underneath the barrier with arm raised above her head.
If her hand touches the barrier, we can't get in. If it doesn't, we drive straight through! Amazing just how many barriers are higher than they seem to be.

Word of warning! Don't blame us if your's doesn't get under!!
