Wheel Nut Torque? - (was KwikFit)

Post by dp bradford » Sun Jan 14, 2007 3:22 pm

I know these tyre and exhaust outfits get slagged off sometimes, but just half an hour ago the lads at the one local to me went that extra mile - THANKS! =D> =D> =D>

I had a semi flat tyre that wouldn't stay up - tuned out it was the valve that had split where it meets the wheel rim. The KwikFit bloke took a quick look, said, "that's a two minute job, mate, back it into here", he removed the wheel, deflated the tyre and broke the bead, put in a new valve and reinflated the wheel. He refitted the wheel and tried to find the correct torque settings for the wheel nuts on his chart, "err, what is it, mate?". I told him and said he probably wouldn't find it on his list, he consulted with one of the other guys and between them they decided on a figure based on similar vehicles. When I made for the office to pay, the bloke in charge just said, "you're all right, mate - have it." Woo Hoo! No charge! :D

Does anybody know the correct torque setting for the wheel nuts? I can't find it in the owners manual. I'm not too worried though, it hasn't fallen off [-o<

I was advised sometime ago that the settings are between 89 and 117nm.
