12v feed

Post by murphy » Fri Jan 12, 2007 5:48 pm

Sorry to ask again - but I have purchased one of those 4 way muti cigarette lighters adapters
- I would like to wire this permanantly live instead of daisy chaining it off existing cigarette lighter.

is this ok to do -
If so can someone tell me best place to take a live feed from
- or should I go direct from battery - I have 2 batteries wired in parallel (not second leisure battery) and all posts on forum detail leisure battery connection.

many thanks

Either from the batteries through an in-line fuse or you'll find a 6mm nut under the fuse box cover in the engine bay. Connect a ring or fork end to the end of your cable and use that (through a 20a in-line fuse)

thanks - do I just connect the live and take the negative to the chassis - or should this go back to negative on battery

Either.

Make sure that the wire is heavy enough.

These things usually come with pathetically inadequate wire.

I want to do something similar due to the demands on my electrics (ipod, laptop, sat nav etc etc) but when I have looked at these 4 way contraptions in the past they look to only be fed by flimsy wires.

I know they should be fit for purpose but I am unconvinced that the ones I have seen are made with the correctly rated wiring for what I need.

Instead I am contemplating the local scrappy to get a number of 'real' ones which I will then mount into a blanking plate (or even using the caravan style sockets)

Might be over cautious but I don't want melt down in my Bongo.
