Reversing sensors, use with trailer, wiring puzzle.
When I plug in trailer lights my rearwards reversing sensor ceases to work. Not surprising when you use a trailer but I am using a trailer board on my bike rack and want to keep the sensors operative, how can I change the wiring in the bike rack board to stop this happening? Any ideas?

Hi Bumbly1,
Its possible that the socket on the vehicle has a reverse light cut out that will cut out the reverse light when trailer is plugged in, similar c/out is fitted to many type of 12 N sockets to cut out the rear fog light thus removing fog light being reflected off the front of the caravan causing glare probs for driver

Cheers Brian, that makes sense, how can I dissable the cut out function when the lightboard is connected and leave it operating for when a trailer or caravan is connected? What makes it "trip"?brianwfl wrote:Hi Bumbly1,

reverse cut out
Hi Bumbly,
On 12N lighting plug at the back the foglight wire goes into a screw terminal, there is a short metal link that goes fron this terminal to another screw terminal from which the feed to the rear foglight is taken. In the body of the socket there is a small platic pin which when the plug is inserted into the socket pushes against the link and breaks the circuit. I am asumming its the sam sort of arrangement. (all this is from memory at present, can check when i get backto suffolk i can recheck). meantime remove socket and check at the rear).

Re: reverse cut out
Brianwfli, that's very helpful, trouble is mine is a 13 pin continental socket but the plunger should be obvious though quite how I isolate it I am not sure, I probably dont need it anyway but I can now have a think about what to do. Thanks again.brianwfl wrote:Hi Bumbly,

Tom
more thoughts re reverse c/out
Hi Bumbly,
more thoughts, check plug for caravan there may be a small cut out on the plug som when you plug it in it misses the pin thus not cutting out the fog light, if so you coud simply make a small cut out on yor lighting board to do the same thing. keep me posted, i will be going home to suffolk overnight so will look out for yer reply 2 morrow

Hi Bumbly, re yr rev light pron, i have been studying some contiental wiring dia
there are basically two types of 13 pimn socket used ! WeST Multicom " Jaeger. WeST most popular.
WeST pins 1 t0 7 are basically in the same arrangement as uk 12S socket with the remaining pins arranged on the outer ring.
Jaeger socket pins 5 to 13 are arraned round the outer ring wiyth pins 1 to 4 in the centre
in both cases pin3 is the earth return for pins 1 t0 8 with pin 8 being
the live feed for the reverse light/buzzer/reverse catch.
if you are using an adapter to convert a uk 7 pin 12S to a continental 13 pin socket make sure you have the correct one for your type of socket
ie Jaeger or WeST Multicom. let me know the outcome.
