side door wont open

presume its the magnets .central locking seems ok .batteries have been flat .any ideas?

If you mean from the inside, it's the child lock switch. No idea if from outside.

no won't open from the inside or outside.locks sound like they are functioning.batteries have been dead but after a brief run every thing apart from the door functions

I very much doubt that this is the same as your problem and I don't have the automatic sliding door either but - the other day my wife complained about not being able to open the door from inside or outside and sure enough she was correct (first time for everything). It transpired that the trim on the outside of the rear window nearest to the sliding door had somehow been bent outwards so that the door couldn't slide. Don't know how that could have happened but just needed pushing back into place. Crap design/build or what?

I would have to say wrong Pippin. In fact none of the ones I looked at had it. Us poor owners 'up north' can't afford all these modern luxeries

yes me too guys!!

EVERY bongo i have seen and been in has this feature! so if yours hasnt then something is faulty with it imo.

if when you slide the door shut (not slamming it) then you should here a motor kick in and then a click when it locks it in placem as the door goes in towards the van. if this isnt happening then its faulty or been disconnected, try taking off the door card and seeing if you have any wires broken/disconnected?

Your symptoms sound just like my own problems in August 2005, when I managed to jam the door when the battery went flat.

Ian has a fact sheet on the members only problem clinic, in the archive in the Body section. It tells you how to remove the door.

It also has a picture of the inside of the door. I manipulated it by hand to open it, but it would jam solid again when you closed it. Opening it and then disconnecting and reconnecting the battery seemed to reset it in the right mode, and my door was right as rain apart from a bit of the disgusting black stuff from the inside of the door being spread around.

Pretty sure I don't have these either. Please describe further and I'll give it a more detailed look tonight. My van is a pretty basic model though. For example it doesn't have aircon or heating controls in the back (and yes I'm pretty damn sure on that one. The pipes are capped off underneath and where you have the controls in the back, I just have a plastic blank and cubby hole).

So how does the door assist work then? Do you close it so far then the motors kick in and it closes it for you? No buttons or switches to press?

It's not really a self closing door in my opinion, you still have to physically shut it by hand but then once it's closed you can hear a few motors and things clunking away. I don't really understand what it's for but I don't treat the door any differently to any other type of sliding door (eg in an old VW).
Of course I may be wrong, maybe I am missing something.
