Instrument cluster bulbs

Post by ChrisQ » Sun Feb 08, 2026 5:09 pm

Cluster out at the moment replacing dodgy speedo,( see last post) so going to renew all the bulbs.
There are 2 types,T10 and T5.
Of the T10, there are green and black fittings. The green ones have a green sleeve over the bulb, the black ones have a clear bulb.
What wattage are these bulbs meant to be. The standard I can find is 5W which seem high for an instrument cluster, as 4 would be on constantly when the lights are in. The other 2 are for the indicators.
Of the T5, there are grey and black fittings. Is this significant? The only bulbs I can find are 1.2W.
What wattage bulbs should I be using in grey and black?

Again, thanks in advance

The lower wattage wire ended bulbs used to be available from CPC just make sure you move the coloured sleeve and base for the wires across to the new lamps https://cpc.farnell.com/c/electrical-li ... ed%2Bbulbs

Many thanks for your response, and yes, ok with transferring the green sleeves over, but do Mazda anywhere state the Wattage of these bulbs, and any significance of the black and grey fitments for the smaller T5 bulbs?

Again, thanks for this and your rapid reply. Some weird and wonderful wattages listed. I’m committed on the 1.2 W T5 bulbs, as these have been ordered,
Will need to do some research for the T10 bulbs, but at least it has stopped me fitting 5W for panel illumination. Will check out LED equivalents as lower heat generation.

LED's are not a good option as they emit a narrow cone of light rather than a broad width and can actually be more night sight damaging than the all round light from a filament lamp.
