Alternator problem

Post by trikeboiler » Mon Aug 11, 2025 3:35 pm

Hi all, got a bit of a problem, when starting my Bongo all is good, then after about ten seconds the battery light comes on, sometimes it will stay on for about ten minutes then go out, then later it will come back on, then go off again. All connections are good, I think the alternator is on its way out, anybody got any other ideas please. I'm getting it checked out next week by an auto electrician. Thanks.

Is the belt for the alternator OK not slipping, no noises associated with the belt slipping etc.
The alternators can also be subjected to oil leak problems, as the engine is mounted on a downward slope and oil leaks from the front of the engine and up running down and clogging the air vents on the alternator and causing it to overheat.
