Could this be a coincidence

Post by Eratosthenes » Wed May 28, 2025 3:25 pm

Over the last few days my exhaust, rear or mid box V6 Bongo, has got increasingly noisy and the noisier it has become there is a distinct loss in power on hills and at lower revs. When the revs eventually pick up power seems to be restored. Could this be a coincidence indicating I have another problem, or can the exhaust issue affect the power?

I have googled this and some say it will affect power and others say it wont.

It is booked in for exhaust replacement tomorrow.

Any comments or tips appreciated.

Yes the exhaust system causes a back pressure and often there are sensors in the exhaust systems as well, these combine to affect the engine, so a leaking exhaust will probably cause less back pressure and a change in flow rate over the sensor and hence affects engine performance.

Geoff,

Thank you for the reply and explanation. Hopefully one less thing to worry about.
