Reversing middle row of seats on Bongo

Post by Hughes47 » Tue May 13, 2025 6:15 pm

We have just bought a Bongo and are wondering if the middle row of seats can be reverses to face the back row. Our model is a Bongo Friendee Aero City Runner, 2002 model.

We were also wondering how easy it is to swap the lap belts for proper seatbelts or at least ones that are safer.

Thanks,
James

Welcome aboard!

Yes they can, it does block some of the sliding door however. Two methods both documented in detail on here in other posts, first is move seat to fully to front, then unbolt seat from sliders - turn around - bolt back on but then you can't slide the seat. Second is to remove seat, remove sliders and turn the sliders around between tracks then bolt seat back on reversed, that way the seat locking mechanism continues to operate and seat can be slide up and down.

Many thanks Geoff and thank you for your welcome!

If I were to go to one of the specialist car centres, how much do you think they'd charge to reverse the seats? I like the sound of the first option - we'd like to lock the reversed seats as close to the front as possible, and as long as we could move the rear seats to create space for luggage when needed that would be fine.

What about the seatbelts - our middle seats have lap belts only and my wife has heard horror stories around those.

Thanks,
James

Welcome H47.. Whereabouts are you located.?

The seat unbolting/moving is a pretty simple operation, takes me ten minutes at most.
Though the seats are quite heavy, it only needs one spanner for the four bolts then lift and spin.. (have done it alone, but it’s easier wth a friend to assist).

if it's an aero city runner like mine, there are 4 'proper' seatbelts - two in the rear boot area, and two in the central sliding door area.

when you reverse the seats i'm not sure what you'd attach 'proper' seatbelts onto, save perhaps the front driver/passenger seatbelt bolts.
