Hello folks.
I have a ‘standard’ 8 seater pop-top, it gets used variously as a people carrier with all seats in, and as a load hauler with one or both rows removed as required.
I also used it to pick up a motorcycle which, with seats removed but sliders in place to provide anchor points, it did easily.
What I’m looking for is a way to retain a seat, or ideally two, but at the same time have a full-length ‘space’ where I can load a few bikes.
I’m thinking, if I could find a suitable additional seat already cut down, or a full one which could be modified it would retain the ability to transport four adults.
But, I want to retain the original rails and bolt the new seat to them, that way I can restore to full seats if required.
I’m aware the rail and slider may impinge but, as I’m only looking to park bicycles in that space, I’m not worried.
Obviously, there’d be some steelwork to allow the modified seat to sit on the existing rail, but as I’d most probably have the new seat pushed all the way back, hopefully this wouldn’t be an issue.
Have any of you experienced anything like this.? (See my sketch below).
Any/all info/advice/thought/ideas most welcome.
Rear seat modification advice - one/two seater
Re: Rear seat modification advice - one/two seater
I believe, with some welding, it’s possible to fit the gull wing seats at the back.

Yes, I’ve seen posts on that, seems like a lot of work, though one of my sons is a welder..
I’m thinking either a modified Bongo seat, or a suitable alternative mounted on the existing rails/runners would be simpler.
Maybe..

We've modified one to take the gullwing seat.
You cut the panel and seat mountings out of one that has a gullwing seat.
Remove your side panel (where the seat will fit).
Clean the sticky stuff off.
Weld the gullwing mountings in place. Then weld the gullwing panel in place - the mountings fit through holes in that panel. Then fit the seat.
