Egr solenoid sticking

My bongo just lost power and black smoke. So thought right away egr so took a quick look with the engine off. I pulled the vacuum pipe that opens the egr vale and immediately I hear the valve snap shut so I put the pipe back on and took it around the block and was great again. Is this a common fault ?

Egr solenoid.

Should I just block the egr and have done ?

Some people have in the past and there are various ideas on how to do it so no visual external sign, otherwise some MoT people won't pass it! Do a search on https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=igmay ... r+blanking

I was looking to see if people have had this same issue of the solenoid not releasing the egr valve and how they fixed. If just throwing a egr blanking plate in there the way to go.
