Transfer case replacement

Hi all I’m a first time poster had my bongo for about 8 months and was wondering if anyone has put a transfer box in from another vehicle that has the capability to switch range ( 2high, 4hIgh & 4low) as I would prefer 2 wheel drive most of the time with the availability to go into 4wd
Any input is appreciated

Welcome aboard.
The drive is normally to the rear wheels only, there is a viscous coupling behind the gearbox which transfers some drive to the front wheels when it senses a rear wheel start to spin.
Hope that helps.

I read somewhere on here that it’s a chain driven gear for the transfer case and mine feels and acts like it’s 4wd all the time

Yes the transfer box itself is chain driven but the drive to the front wheels is via a Viscous Clutch which only engages the power when there is a speed difference between front and rear wheels see the diagrams, hence you are 2-wheel drive all the time and 4-wheel drive only when there is slipping;

Ah ok thanks I get it now but do you know of any other transfer box’s that might fit as I would still like the option for 4 low sometimes and being able to have it locked in to full 4wd without relying on a viscus clutch I’m wanting to make it as capable in mid as I can due to my plans with it

Never heard of anyone playing about in that area, not sure how you could have the front wheels at a different ration from the rear in a Bongo setup, it seems to be very capable in its original design too be honest!
