Fitting new Distributor Rotor Arm - amateur spannerist!

Post by agentdagnamit » Sat Dec 21, 2024 3:30 pm

The nice AA mechanic has confirmed that my v6 2.5l Bongo needs a new distributor rotor arm, luckily the rest of the unit appears to be ok. The job is a bit urgent and I cant find a mechanic before Christmas. He says it's pretty easy to do. Would people here agree?

Whip out 3 x 8mm bolts holding the cap in place (and if I remove the leads, make sure I know how to reattach them!). The lower 8mm bolt looks like it is a bit tricky to get to. Apparently the crux is removing the current rotor arm without rounding off the 2 small screws that hold it in place. Then reattach the new one ensuring it's rotated correctly (though there might be a D shape mounting that ensures it is correctly orientated).

Sourcing the new arm before Christmas might be the main issue....

As you can tell, I'm no mechanic, but not a total idiot hopefully.

Have you tried ADS, South Liberty Lane?
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

So far so good. Got the old rotor off and it looks a bit damaged. Pretty straightforward.

I'll call ADS tomorrow, didn't realise they carried stock for sale.
