Soft Close Door Mechanism

Hi all,
My sliding door is not soft closing. Fuse and mechanism is working and turns on closure of door but I have a couple of questions. The cable that feeds in from the left as you look at it is really slack when the mechanism is rotated fully left, should this be taught? Also what is the correct starting position for the mechanism fully left, fully right or middle?

The one coming in from the left is similar in function to the one on the right, its a "claw" that grabs the loop fixing on the door frame to pull the door shut and in when the mechanism turns.
