12v Socket / cigarette lighter

Post by ScotlandCB_Bongo » Sun Oct 06, 2024 3:54 pm

Hi,

New owner.

A strange one, simply running a bluetooth FM transmitter and phone charger from the 12v socket.

Socket worked when picked up, journey up the M6 to Scotland, and for local trips.

I took a trip of approximately 15miles today, all working as normal.

When I started up for the return journey, radio, and everything else comes on but 12v socket doesn't appear to be getting any power.
I tried a different phone charger and no power to it as well, so I think it is the socket rather than device.

I tried turning the vehicle off and on again, and no joy.

Does have a leisure and main battery, and testing coolant alarm (it is flashing LED) it works.

Any idea on how to resolve the 12v socket having no power issue?

The 12v socket is fed from the Ancillaries fuse, which if you have a leisure battery means its been transferred across to it from the starter battery normally by removing the standard fuse (top right, 10Amp or 15Amp in fuse box by drivers knee) and replacing it with a wire in a small loom to the fuse panel for the leisure battery (normally close to the LB) it could be this fuse blown but in that case the Radio and other devices fed from it won't be working! Or the fuse on the socket itself has been blown (more likely if other things are working) often by a tyre pump drawing too much power! In which case you need to release the socket extract it and (personally I bridge the blown fuse as its not the sockets job to protect the devices cable) repair it which is difficult as its part of the socket itself! Maybe 12v power socket on the dash could have been re-wired onto another fuse during the camper conversion??

Seem to remember the wiring and connections on the back of that 12v outlet are garbage. Could be it got a little warm with the extra load and something has failed, although if so then it's obviously disappointing the fuse did not blow.
