Automatic stalling when cold

Please help I have a 2 l automatic bongo 2005. It is stalling when cold when I put it into gear. It is fine idling but as soon as I put it into drive or reverse it will stutter and then stall. It starts again first time every time and will not do it after it's been driven for a short period. It's only when the engine is cold. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this. Is it likely to be a gearbox issue or something else?

Have you checked the gearbox oil level's ?
Any other history to report, has it been used often, or left standing for a while, when did it last have service at a garage ?
