Low cost compatible ABS/wheel speed sensor

Post by Lemner » Sat Jun 10, 2023 4:40 pm

Hello All,
I thought I should pass on a very cost effective, fully compatible ABS wheel speed sensor-
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385619423281

I've just fitted one to the front right wheel on my Freda and all is well; no more expensive light on the dash!

The unit needed a bit of sanding/filing to make it fit through the mounting hole, and the collar had to be ground down to enable the magnet to be close enough to the toothed speed sensor ring but apart from that it was almost factory perfect. The metal bracket that came with it also needed a gentle grinding as it has raised sides which would make the unit again stand too away from the toothed wheel.

At under £7 for the part, I cannot fathom why the Mazda ones are so expensive, it makes no sense.
The whole job took under 2 hours including drilling and tapping the snapped retaining bolt (which was expected).

The main reason I chose this one instead of others listed on the forum was that it came ready cabled, all I had to do was cut the supplied plug off and solder the old one in place.

All questions welcomed.
Clever people the Japanese.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been looking for a budget-friendly solution for my Freda's ABS issue. This eBay sensor seems perfect. Glad to hear it worked for you—I'll order one and give it a try. Hopefully, it solves the dash light problem for me too!

I need to get an abs sensor as got a light on.
Anyone know what vehicle this sensor was from, as the ebay page is not available now. This one just sounds easier with the wires attached!

Do a search on YouTube there are several variations of existing ABS sensors which can be made to fit, several of them only involve a connector alteration.

Thanks for the reply
I now think it’s the wire broken where it goes thru one of the support brackets. So will try cutting that off near the sensor & replace the wire back to the plug.
