Headlights

Hi all,

I warned you there’d be more questions to follow…

When I switch my lights onto stage 1, dipped headlights, only the driver’s side lights come on, both front and back.

Twist on to stage 2 and all 4 lights come on.

Bulbs? Fuses? What are people’s general opinions on where I should head first please?

Which type of headlights do you have ? There is the standard H4 filament style or the HID bulbs style, also which year ?
It less likely to be a fuse problem as they do all come on but could be the actual headlamp connectors if the H4 style, although that doesn't explain the rear tail lights not coming on!

If the lights is turned one click, it should put on the side lights front and back, second turns on dipped with high beam controlled by the stalk pushed forward.
Sounds like there is a wiring fault, the OP seeds to clarify exactly what position the switch is in, click 1 or 2 for dipped lights.

Thanks for the responses.

It only switches on the lights on the driver’s (off-side) side of the vehicle when on 1st click, which sound to be sidelights.

On click 2, all 4 lights come one.

That sounds to be a wiring or grounding problem, the fuses and switching are common to the wiring loom/relays for all the sidelights and headlights.
The sidelights circuit however is a pain to work on as it extends all round as it also powers the internal location lights as well as the external vehicle lights.

Great advice. Will get it sorted. Thanks.
(Apologies for auto-correct typo in earlier post.)

Out of interest, would this fail an MOT?

A fail, sidelights need to be working on there own right, without headlights as I understand it.

Got the tester on this today.

Juice getting to the connector, so possibly a blown bulb coincidence.

Just need to work out how to change them now.

They're easy enough really. Plenty of room under the bonnet. Pop off the rubber cover and look for the clip that holds the bulb in place. One H4 bulb per headlight. Old school!

Haven't done the rear ones so I can't help you there.
