Very interesting and it got me googling. I found this:

...which seems to suggest its all happening due to an EU regulation. Which begs the question - will the UK Govt wise up and give two fingers to it all as they should. Its seems a (CO2 emitting) nonsense that we can all travel Ryanair for £10 (or whatever) to Europe but its £2000+ pa to do low miles in a motorhome and spend yer holiday money in the UK helping to support its tourist economy (and its motorhome industry).

Not sure about it being the EU regulation itself, the other EU countries aren't having the same problem.
It appears to be that our Politicians when they converted the EU Reg's into UK law, in there normal incompetent way, they have caused the problem because they classed the vehicles as cars and not commercial/light good vehicles. Expecting out politicians to own up to there error might be asking a bit much .....

Very interesting Geoff. I probably misread it but EU regulation 2018/1832 seemed to be saying they had no option? Either way its a nasty piece of work by whoever is responsible

I carried on using a few more links, it seems only us in the UK that put the Commercial Vehicle sub-frame into the Car category when its not been finished, its then classed as a car for Taxation. The other countries don't handle it that way (after all Tax isn't paid whilst its in the factory) they only Tax it once its a finished vehicle, the other aspect of course is that a lot (most ?) of the EU put the Tax on the fuel as its the fuel that causes the Emissions, not the van itself - that way if you drive it more and cause more emissions you pay more, whilst in the UK you pay Emissions Tax even when its sat doing nothing on your drive ....

Am I right in thinking this only applies to motorhomes / camper vans registered after this date?

Correct, so doesn't affect us or Bongo's at all as they are all first registered prior to the date even if freshly imported.

My bongo is still classed as an "MPV" multi purpose vehicle.

Do these tax problems still apply to bongo MPVs, or only officially converted bongo "campervans"?

There is no tax problem with our Bongos (although we might think it's a bit steep).

We don't need to do anything, just pay what's due at renewal.
