Repairing the paint on my JAL skylift roof?

Post by ChuckHunky » Fri Jul 26, 2019 2:17 pm

Hi

Not strictly a "techie" question, but this seems the most appropriate forum!

I've had a JAL Bongo for a few years, very happy with it. The "Skylift" roof that was fitted prior to collection has been fine, but I noticed while cleaning (a disappointingly rare event) that the paint is flaking off quite seriously in one channel. It appears that water stands in this channel when the vehicle is parked due to the camber of the road. There was quite a lot of "green" there when I was cleaning and as I cleaned it off, away came the paint too!

The rest of the roof is fine, it's just this channel that's problematic. How would I go about repairing this? The roof is fibreglass and I know nothing about vehicle painting so I'm suspecting a body shop will be the answer. I just wanted to get opinions from here first! :)

Many thanks!

I can see it needs doing, but it doesn't look that bad and I suspect a body shop would quote £££ to spray the whole roof.

Personaly I'd have a look at some of the on line tips for painting fibreglass and give it a go.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.
