Tailgate lock

Post by Maz Bongo » Thu Feb 21, 2019 11:11 am

Hello,

I am new. This page is great! I have just searched for fuse diagrams to identify the AFT fuse and realised, after seeing it in the troubleshooting section, that I had left the handbrake off! That was easily fixed! 😂

The next job is my tailgate lock. Before I start tracing wires, is there any other reason why my tailgate lock has stopped working on the central locking? (I have recently removed and refined the door card so it may be something I did. Thank you

A common problem is the wiring loom to the rear door, upper right corner, like the drivers door loom, the constant flexing of the wires causes them to work harden and then the copper breaks inside the insulation. You can sometimes feel the broken wires by running your nail down the insulation and there may be a little give, its normally within the rubber flex section. Have you checked the rear wiper motor runs as well and the number plate light?

Thank you! Yes, the light and motor are both working fine. I can’t feel anything obvious with the wires but will check more fully later as I am dressed for work and liable to get filthy. Thanks again! 🙏

I had this problem on mine

The central locking motor had been wet at some point and rusted inside.
It was quite easy to take apart and with a bit of cleaning and some WD40 was working again. Was really surprised as i though it beyond repair. Still ok 2 years on.

They are available secondhand as well for cheap money.
