Blower only works on max
Hi. I have a '96 bongo and for a while now the heater blower only works on max fan speed. I couldn't find a specific reference to this in the forum, only the mention of a resistor that might be faulty. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Blower only works on max
Is it a Climate control system - Electronic or a mechanical slider version ?
If its the electronic type that suggests that the control transistor has blown, due to a corroded motor, the transistor is bypassed by a relay for max speed, both problems are easily fixed. The transistor itself can be replaced or a new module bought and the motor can be cleaned out see here http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/air_fan_cleaning/

Its an electronic climate system. Thanks very much for the info and link

Re: Blower only works on max
Generally when the blower only works on max it usually is the resistor.
Whatever you do, DO NOT try to repair the resistor as you will most likely cause a fire. Replace only, with a new one if you can

Re: Blower only works on max
I'm puzzled by this. Using advice on here i resoldered my resistor (about 10 years ago) after freeing up my stiff motor and its all worked fine ever since.knpenny wrote: Fri Jul 27, 2018 5:32 pm Generally when the blower only works on max it usually is the resistor.![]()

Re: Blower only works on max
I suspect he is thinking of the Vauxhall Zafira fires, which were caused by fitting an under rated resistor pack.
I've not heard of any problems with repairing the resistor pack thermal fuses, however as this is a Climate Control module it hasn't got any resistor thermal fuses to repair only the blown transistor! Which can be soldered in http://nikkoe.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=2sd1525 or buy a new module...

Yep i used to work dismantling vauxhalls back in scotland, the zafiras were bad when they went up. theworst part was you didn't even have to have the ignition on or running for them to go up, however i would still recomend a replacement. just to be on the safe side.

Thanks. What is the technical term for the replacement when requesting the part. "Climate control resistor module?

Re: Blower only works on max
Hi. So I’ve removed the resistor.
Rather than it being the 3 pins that need soldering (they seem very much in place). Its actually the copper coiled metal strip which has come away at one end. If this isn’t meant to be like this I can resolder ? and also disassemble the motor as everyone recommend. Tried to attach a picture but kept saying the file was too big regardless of how much I compressed it.
Cheers

This is the module from the plug side, the transistor is soldered in from the otherside thru hole and you can see the connections along the lower edge of the PCB.

Re: Blower only works on max
Ok so the other side which has the curved copper metal shouldn’t be bonded at both ends to the board? The pins look fine on my ones as shown in your image.
Re: Blower only works on max
I don't have any pictures of the reverse side, but seem to recall that there is a heatsink to which the transistor is bolted. From the description its almost certain that the transistor has blown and just needs unbolting, solder suck the legs of the transistor free and replace.
