Air conditioning pump
Good morning.
I had my air conditioning regassed yesterday. After testing it, we found that the fan now comes on when the a/c button is pressed, however the pump does not come on.
The garage said it may be a loose wire or worst case the pump will need replacing.
Where is the pump Located and what is the best way to access it. I will test the power first and check belt etc.
Many thanks

Re: Air conditioning pump
The compressor pump is down the passenger side of the engine at the front driven by a belt via a electromagnetic clutch, its been known for the connector to corrode or even to have been unplugged because the compressor has seized.

Re: Air conditioning pump
Yes, and mine didn't engage with about 10psi in it. When I recharged, the pump engaged so I think there's a pressure switch in there somwhere which may be worth a look.
Re: Air conditioning pump
The pressure switch is in the drier itself the connector for it is just behind the sightglass at the top on the righthand side of the radiator;

Many thanks for the replies.
I have gained access to the air con pump only to find it unplugged. One single cable in a connector, I'll try to add photos. Maybe it's been disconnected for a reason? What will happen if I plug it back in and try it? What if its seized am I likely to damage anything.
Thanks

Re: Air conditioning pump
Depends what the problem is, if its really seized then the belt will start slipping and squeal! If its OK it will start working ...

Re: Air conditioning pump
Just plugged in the pump and fired her up.
Blowers blowing nice and cold.
But there seems to be a very loud screatching noise coming from the pump now.
Could this be the belt? It does look old.
Many thanks for your inputs.

Re: Air conditioning pump
Hi bit late on this post, when you recharged the gas, did you make sure to add oil? about 14ml of pag 46 if i remember correctly.
Second, if yours is the same belt as mine, 2.0 petol, then it should have teeth on it, if not you'll have to replace it. not sure about the diesels to be honest.
Third, the squal could be coming from the idler pulley as mine first did and it started squealing on the way to france from scotland. I thought the engine was giving up.
Replaced the belt and pulley, recharged the gas and it worked fine for 3 weeks, then went hot again.
only to find there was a seal gone at the rear pipe leading to the rear heater. Replaced the o ring and recharged again.
It was ok for a couple of days then it sterted to squeal again
turned out that the oil had came out when i replaced the o ring, so
recharged again and this time put oil in the system.
Its been 2-3 months and still blowing fresh. DONT forget the oil
