Only one tail light not working

Post by djfairbrother » Thu May 03, 2018 12:02 am

Hi everyone

I have been frustrating myself this evening with this electrical problem which is stopping me from getting my MOT...

Near side tail light isn't working, even though off side tail light and both brake lights (as well as all other lights in the rear cluster and the fog light) are all fine. This makes me think it's not a fuse/relay issue, right? Ive tried a new bulb and that doesn't make a difference.

Can't see any damaged wires on the NS cluster at all. Behind the OS cluster there is a white wire and a blue wire coming from the same loom that aren't connected to anything.

Does anyone know where the offending light is earthed - maybe it's that? But then wouldn't the brake light also not work, as it's the same bulb??

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I’d try using a circuit tester to see if you are getting a live feed before looking at the bulb / earth. Have you got one of those little screw drivers with a cable and clamp which you can attach to a good earth and test?

Quick get you through mot fix....tap into wire feeding the other side, run it under the door seal and tap into problem side.

Do you have a towbar fitted? I have one on mine and a tail lighting problem (bulb blowing) was cured by removing all those dreadful scotchlock connectors the fitter had used and soldering up the connections instead.
