Hi I recently bought a Mazda bongo and have discovered it won't go into top gear (3k revs) at 60. That would probably be why he he was reluctant about a good test drive I didn't get it up to that speed in a residential area, maybe I should of persisted in going on a dual carriageway. What's done is done anyway It drives really well though no lights on etc. What could this be.?
Also I've fitted a new split charger leisure battery 120ah wiring bits and bobs and discover it only powers 2lights and the fridge the mains runs the cig lighters etc can I upgrade this ? I'm new to owning a bongo or any camper any advice would be great.

First thing that's easy is check oil level etc and its condition. Is it petrol or diesel?

Waste of time checking oil level for THIS fault, oil quality maybe (is it black & smells burnt?), as the transmission is electronically controlled so you need to be looking at fault codes etc. I assume to HOLD light comes on & off with the button & it isn't on all the time? If it is it will never shift to top. Poss TPS issue or speed sensor assuming all is well in the trans.

This might give you an idea of the rpm to gear position/mph.

Gear Ratios
(mph/2000rpm) for each
gear.
1st – 11.2MPH
2nd – 20.4MPH
3rd – 32.0MPH
4th – 50.3MPH

+/- 8%

Take Care

It seems I also have this issue on my recently purchased bongo.

On occasions it will select 4th but then a few seconds later it will jump back to 3rd and then may not select 4th again for the rest of the journey.

Any ideas?
