Best time to sell a Mazda Bongo.

Post by missmark » Mon Jan 22, 2018 8:21 pm

Hello
I am thinking of selling my lovely van. It has ben fully converted, but has never been used. We bought it last May and have only been to Cornwall in it. We stayed in a hotel  However, I have no interest in it now due to a sudden bereavement a month after we bought it. The question I am asking really before I decide is this.....My husband who is quite frankly a nuisance with opening and closing car windows during the summer months caused the electrics to suddenly stop. However, after a few days, they were operating fine again. I have not been in the van for a long time now, preferring to use my car, consequently I found that the windows are not operating again. Has anyone got any ideas please??? I don't know whether to get it repaired before selling it or taking the money off the selling price. The garage we purchased it from said that they would repair it.

I am really undecided whether I want to let it go yet, as I haven't had the pleasure of using it. Having said that it seems such a waste when someone could the enjoyment out of it.

Many Thanks

Hi. 8)

Welcome to BF, and I'm really sorry to hear of your loss.

Re the windows, there is a long, thin, switch at 90 degrees to the ones that operate the windows, located with these two switches on the driver's door.

Try this first as it can accidentaly get switched off.

Failing this it could be an intermittent break in the loom where it passes from the 'A' pillar into the driver's door.

It's a simple job to strip off the insulation and have a look. Breaks are often obvious, but if not try jiggling it while operating the window switches.

Easy to solder in a short length of wire or replacement looms can be bought but are dear.

This is also a common cause of the central locking playing up.

I think Camper Vans tend to hold their value year round looking for what Traders ask and what they have been fetching on Ebay, like most luxury goods. You may get a few hundred quid more at the start of Spring March/April,

Thank-you Bob.
I am not sure how to reply as I haven't used this before.

My husband has had a look at it. It was making a whirring noise, so he thought it was the motor. But that has stopped now. It is just zonked. My son was an auto electrician...it was him who suddenly passed away you see. So you can imagine my disinterest in the van now.

That will be a really difficult decision.

I can't suggest the best course of action as it's obviously a very personal thing, I honestly wish I could find some words to help.

I can say vehicles don't like being sat for long periods, seals and hoses tend to harden, tyres will flat spot and perish, the battery will deteriorate, MoT runs out, and so the list goes on...

It's normaly cost effective to get any repairs done rather than offer a few pounds off the price as the buyers mind set tends to be, "If the repair is that simple why haven't they just had it done"? They then want a large discount 'Just in case' the work is worse than expected.

I'm sure others will have some thoughts, great team on here. 8)

So sorry to hear about your son.
When it comes time to sell it's a good idea to have a friend with you. We're all vulnerable when grieving and whilst getting a fair price might not be important right now it's what it does to a persons self esteem that does matter should someone try to get your Bongo for an unduly low price.
As said before I would fix the windows prior to selling.
