Auto gear selector cable?

Post by BongoBetsy » Fri Jan 19, 2018 6:22 pm

Last time I drove Betsy the gear selector made a clunk when I pulled it into D and she stayed in park. I assumed the cable had snapped. I had a look and found if I put the selector in the D or reverse position I could lift the drivers seat and reach in and pull the lever the cable attaches to and get that gear. I managed to reverse her out of the parking spot and get her home in D. The gear selector works fine going away from me (so I can go from D to reverse to park) but to get from park to reverse or drive I need to get underneath and pull the lever (obviously not ideal! Apart from getting her home I haven’t driven)

Does this sound like the cable has snapped? Or has something just come apart somewhere?

Thanks

Welcome to BF. 8)

It's impossible to say what the problem is without looking, but it does seem likely that the cable has detatched or broken.

Shouldn't be too difficult to sort.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.
