I’ve noticed that my water temp gauge never really moves albeit very slightly and seems to be stuck in very low. Also the heat even on full never really gets very hot, though I don’t know if I’m just comparing to a newer car.
Just wanted to know if there is any link between water temp being low and heating and if I have a big problem looming!!
Thank you

Possibly someone has removed the themostat to hide a problem.

Re: Water temp gauge and heater
I had the same problem on mine when i first got it. Took it back to Andy at Andys Imports where i got it from & he said the thermostat was probably stuck open, which was quite common. He changed it & now it heats up really quick - within about 3 miles. Also the temp guage is rock solid at just under halfway & the heater works really well.
So I’d suggest checking and probably changing the thermostat on yours.

I bought mine fully aware of a problem in that department and budgeted accordingly. When I put it into a nearby specialist to have the work done he commented that he'd seen several 2.0 vehicles recently with a stuck thermostat, which was indeed the case with mine. Not expensive

Hate to imagine what the fuel consumption has been like with the stat stuck open
Can cause bore wash as well I have heard, so I would change it asap.

Thanks it’s a 2.5 diesel and yes the fuel economy is awful and cold in the cabin!! Have ordered new thermostat and water pump as was recommended to just do both together. Do you think a standard garage would be able to do this or best to take to a Mazda bongo specialist garage..unfortunately the nearest one that knows bongos is quite far from me and don’t don’t want to risk a long drive..
Re: Water temp gauge and heater
definitely use a Bongo Friendly garage for work on the cooling system.
It will be worth paying to have the Bongo recovered to the garage, flat bed truck if necessary, as there are far too many horror stories of garages who refuse to listen when it comes to the bleed process.
