Starter Battery Not Charging - Help

Hi everyone,
Need my bongo fully functional for July and August due to work, and she's chosen the week before it all starts to have a little problem with the starter battery (I guess better now than in the middle of work!)
Bought Bongo second hand about 18months ago (N reg) and the starter battery has gone flat at least twice and needed jump starting (left my hazard lights on for a few hours, and then sat in the car with headlights on and engine off once!). Both times I was a little surprised that the battery had run flat (the lights were only left on for 30 mins I think.) but I thought - old battery what can you do. I bought a jump starter battery pack from halfords, and when I hadn't used the bongo for a week again the battery went flat, but started after I used the jump starter.
Now though something else is happening. Completely dead, so that it's not even close on first attempt, and I hadn't left it for more than a day, couldn't see anything I'd left on etc. Used jump starter and it *just* got it going. Took it for a 20-30 minute drive - parked it up. Dead again in 20 minutes (completely dead). Jump started it from my sisters car - another 20 minute drive to home. Parked it up, and tried to start it straightaway - completely dead.
So, with my limited techie knowledge, I'm thinking either a) knackered battery, b) knackered alternator or c) both.
Is there any way of knowing which option? Have I missed something else?
About 9 months ago I fitted a leisure battery with a split charge relay kit VSR in it. Could it be related to that?
I don't want to buy a new battery for it to continue happening. Is it worth taking it to a garage as I only have 3 days to get it fixed?
