12v car cigar accessory query

Post by elbee » Fri Mar 03, 2017 12:09 am

Does anyone know what is the max current you can draw from the rear cigar lighter socket? In other words what else is on the cigar socket circuit and what value fuse protects it?

Sorry just checked and there is a download of the fuses on the members section

Looks like fuse number 8 and is 15A controlling both cigar sockets, mirrors and radio.

The sockets are only rated for 10 Amps! They also have a fusible link on the rear connections which is usually the first thing to blow.
Fuses are there to protect the wiring itself not the device(s) on the end.

The cable going to the rear socket is barely adequate anyway, if you plan to use it for anything other than light loads I'd suggest either a separate socket with decent cable or running a better cable to the existing socket.
