radio wiring

Post by leswats44 » Mon Jan 23, 2017 3:55 pm

Hi all, does anyone know the wire colours for speaker wiring I am having problems
trying to install my mates pioneer radio, the wireing has been altered and I can't
seem to get any responce from speakers, I tried the old battery trick (putting a
small charge across ,you normally get a buzz) but no luck. Any idea's welcome.
many thank's ( his Bongo is 1998 v6)
Les

P.s the radio work's great in my 1996 2'5 turbo diesel
plugged straight in with ISO lead

Bit of an epic thread resurrection, but thought it was worth it to say a thank you to Geoff and Ian for the useful info.

Swapped out my original, Jap-spec radio for a 'new' (eBay recycled!) double din yesterday. So nice to have a radio that actually picks something up!

Ok, I could have figured it out by myself, but with the diagram and wire colour-code listing posted here it was a breeze.

Thanks chaps.

Do you guys know which of the lives goes to the ignition switch? I'd like to move that connection to go to the switch on my dash that power toggles the leisure battery connections.

The A7 pin (Blue wire) is Ignition switched power,
the A4 pin (Blue/Red) is permanent back-up power.

@wwavetdave, suppose you'd need an on/off/on type switch so it draws power from either main or leisure rather than both batteries - or doesn't it matter?

I moved the circuit to the leisure battery using a swap loom, and now the stereo is constantly on. I'd just like to put a switch in line so I can turn it off.

Common problem, often there is a software On/Off function in the menu's but not the easiest to use, my solution was buy a radio with On/Off and also a remote so could adjust and use it from the rear!

Yes, that's the way it is here. You have to run through the menus to turn it off. Not the end of the world but it's a pain if you're in a rush. I have a power switch for my Voltmeter, USB charger, Cigar charger panel on the center console powered by the leisure battery so it's no big deal to route it to there, I just need to run the appropriate cable to the switch and back out.

Funny thing. After not getting around to getting this sorted 5 years ago, I came back to it this week. The first post I googled turned out to be my own! Long story short, somewhere in my loom the Ignition switched power and permanent back-up power have been joined and this turned out to be less easy than first anticipated. In the end I just split the Ignition Switched power from the back of the stereo loom and ran that to my leisure battery panel and it's sorted.
