alarms

Post by leswats44 » Sun Jan 15, 2017 12:38 pm

Hi all happy new year,
can any bongo owners recommend a good easy to fit alarm (not to expensive) I will be
fitting it myself. I have seen a Thatcham cat 2 on E-Bay about £50+ seems ok.
Any advice welcomed .
Les

Sorry forgot, it's a 1996 diesel friendee auto

A thatcham cat 2 is an immobiliser.
A cat 1 is a combined alarm/immobiliser.
What features do you need ? Central locking activation etc ? If its just the basic alarm functions you need eg door, boot, interior & ignition then all alarms pretty much wire up the same way. I would say when it comes to alarms & immobilisers the make & model of the system is nowhere near as important as the quality of the way the installation is carried out. A well fitted cheapo sparkrite alarm is way better than a poorly fitted top end Clifford system.

Not an alarm, but a few of us use these as well:

Small size fits Bongo.

Thing is with a grey import there is almost no car crime in Japan so manufacturers don't waste money on decent locks to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Hence I like a big, meaty, steering wheel lock.

A good alarm is also worthwhile.

Unfortunately Bob.the professional car thief will laugh at a steering wheel lock, takes about 20 seconds to take one off .
Having said that, its a visual deterrent, and the more of those you have the better. The car thief doesnt like to spend time getting around all sorts of security gizmos,so pile em up
