Vehicle "wobbling" at 60mph... HELP?

Post by Mike1961 » Sun Oct 22, 2006 2:38 pm

I have had four new tyres, 4 wheels balanced, tracking checked... but the steering still wobbles at 60 - 70mph. Any ideas as to what is causing this / how to fix it?

Thanks, Mike :D

Steering wheel rack problem perhaps?

Do you have alloy wheels fitted if so you may need hub spacers as the wheel may not be located on the hub square.

It could be our old friend... the inaccurate type of wheel balancing.

Did they balance the wheel using the centre hole or the studs?

If they used the centre hole, then ask them to balance them again using the stud boss adapter for the wheel balancer. On some wheelsthe centre hole is not perfectly central.

All t best,

Dave.

I had new tyres fitted when I bought my Bongo, had a terrible wobble at 70mph. Went back to garage and they asurred me all was done correctly but after geeting them to physically re-do the balancing things are much improved.

Still got a bit of a wobble but I kind of expected it for a 10 year old van - doesn't bother me at all now. The 'old' wobble felt like someone kicking the back of my seat.

Suggest you get them balanced again - good luck.
