Hello all
I seem to have an oil leak from the rocker cover which I would like to fix its a 95 2.5 TD , I assume that I should remove the middle panel between the passenger and drivers side engine access to make the job easier, my question is how easy is it to remove . What is the simplest way to deal with the gear shifter ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Brian

Re: Rocker cover gasket replacement
I did mine this week, removing the top panel is easier than ithought it would be.
Both seat/hatches open
3 bolts holding the gearstick in place, then that swings out of the way
8 or so bolts front and backholding top plate to body
I unclipped the wiring which runs along the top panel and the swung the panel up and back.
Really very simple. Removing the bolts on the rocker cover was actuslly harder as they have some obstructions, but very simple too.
I was a bit over cautious with tightening up the rocker cover as ihad read that you can overtighten and cause a leak, mine leaked after as i didn't tighten enough. So check after starting the engine.

Re: Rocker cover gasket replacement
Hello Chris and thanks a million for that link to northern bongolow , it's is exactly what I was looking for .
I've done a few cambox cover gaskets on the mx5s and their torque is also very important.
My torque wrench doesn't go down that far but this could be an excuse for another toy ......... :lol
I'm hoping to do this project plus a full service this weekend if my current cold and current wife allow
Thanks again
Brian

should there be a comma after cold, or is it just that she is cold and currently married to you.
