Coolant and hoses change

Post by Adscan » Sun Jun 12, 2016 7:13 pm

I have seen the vids on how to change the coolant and think i will give it a go. I realise how important it is not to get any air pockets etc.

I also have the four main hoses i want to swap over as well as the two metal coolant pipes that run under the driver and passenger seat. How hard is it to swap these out? Is this a straightforward job or should i leave it to an expert. I only have axle stands its and basic tools.

the 2 metal pipes you speak of are they the short ones between the 4 hoses or the long ones that are clipped to the inside of the chassis, if its the last 2 they are dooable but quite difficult as diy.
if its the ones in this link, that link the 4 main hoses they are a lot easier to do at home.

if you look on the link below it shows how most of the pipes are mounted, usually by rubber bobbin mountings, these can tear apart if you just spanner them off. click on the number on the drawing to highlight it, then look in the left margin for a description of the part and a mazda part number.

this thread may help with the long pipes replacement.

where in the country are you, someone local may help with the bleeding if you have not done it before, or look me up the big bash.

The two metal pipes i have are: 15-190 and 15-19X... mine are a little rusty and need doing before i get any leaks appearing.

Is there a lot of dismantling involved to get at these then?

I would like to have a go at doing these but as i said earlier i don't have a lift/ramp and will be doing it from crawling under the van. The four large rubber hoses (radiator hoses & hoses to metal pipes) look pretty straightforward.

no problem doing these but they are mounted using the rubber bobbins mentioned above, access is good, take note of the little rubber nipple on the drivers side pipe make sure this is in good order.

when doing these i too just run the bongo on a couple of home made low ramps (8 x 3 or 4) then you have a little belly room. :)

i have a pair of these pipes going spare if your stuck.
