Where to get spare immobiliser fob...

Post by S0L » Wed Jun 08, 2016 9:47 pm

First let me tell you a story :)

Yesterday, my lovely wife offered to help a friend by picking up a washing machine from her house to take to someone else. You know, now we have a van to help do these things. We get to the house to go pick up said washing machine, she steps out of the Bongo, goes to lock it up, then immediately drops the key (by accident I hope!) down the drain that's so conveniently placed right under the drivers door...

Cue a few tears on her side, not to mention a few swear words on my part. You see whilst we have two sets of keys for the Bongo, we only have just the one immobiliser fob. Guess which ones fell in the drain...

Anyway, this story has a happy ending. After the neighbour, am avid fisherman, leapt to our help with all manner of nets, we managed to retrieve the keys. I suspect the smell will fade with time :)

But it was a timely warning that maybe I should get a spare fob... If... I can work out what make and where to get one! I figured someone on here may know!

It looks like this...

(Note the hair band is holding it together!)

And goes into a slot like this on the Dash (right hand side)...

Which I'm assuming is factory fitted? Or am I miles off?

And yes, I am also going to get a cork ball to put on the keyring so next time they float and are easier to retrieve!

Definitely not factory fitted, its aftermarket. you really need to get a manufacturer name from it as a starting point.

If it proves difficult to find out the make it may be easier to just fit a new one from scratch.

Agree that doesn't look like a factory fit and if it came with Bongy from Land of Rising Sun it could be tricky to trace.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Thanks for the replies,

I fear you're right, replacement or removal probably are the route to success here. Now I know it's not a factory fitted one, I took the fob to pieces to look for any clues...

Not a lot to go on there! There is some etchings on the chip, but it's way past my eye sight to read! No obvious manufacturer markings, FCC ID's or anything. This may be tricky...

I wonder how hard it would be to disable the immobiliser as a plan B. Or at least fit a hidden switch to do so...!
