Mystery wire by alternator

I'm replacing the driver side steel heater pipe and, while inspecting the underside I noticed a single wire which was not connected. It has a right angled socket on the end which looks like it fits onto a post type pin. I thought at first it was the engine temp sensor but that is a spade connector. Is there a single pin connector on the alternator?

That could be the answer. The van has been flattening batteries for some time. I will have a look tomorrow. Thank you for your help.

Yes there is one two pin connector and then a separate single pin they are labelled A1-02 in the diagram and connector layout below;

The Black/Red is the field current feed that generates the magnetic field, without that you will get only a very feeble result!

Thanks Geoff, I've had a look at the alternator and can't see a single pin connector. The van has had a history of flat batteries so this wire could be the cause. Do you know where on the alternator the connector is located? I can't read the diagram as I'm working on an I phone in the Hebrides and don't have flash player!

If you're stuck, I'll pop the seat up on mine and take a photo for you tomorrow evening.

It's sorted! The mystery wire is the feed from the power steering pressure sensor. It's tucked away on top of the pump and refitting it will be somewhat difficult. The pump may have to come off. Thanks to everyone for the help.
