Is this a rear view camera?

Is this a rear view camera I can see? Only spotted this today  as I was playing with the bike rack.
Anyone know where it would originally have been wired to? - and what wires went where and where to look for them. Might be able to get this working with a bit of luck.

Yes it is :). Would have been wired to the original Japanese head unit. There should be a wire somewhere behind the stereo you could reconnect if you had a suitable head unit that accepts NTSC video input.

Looks like one, I quite like the neatness of how it is installed. I wonder if it was factory fitted.

I'm guessing you'll have a yellow RCA lead up behind the radio somewhere to connect to a screen. Some head units have a screen and can display the rear view camera. Failing that you can buy a cheap screen that goes over the rear view mirror.

That looks like a factory fitted unit.

We have a reversing camera with Japanese head unit...it is an aftermarket one where we can only get radio 2......I don't want to change it as the reversing camera is very useful...plus it plays CDs and DVDs.

Also as a bonus it has a built in satnav system... ....very useful if we ever go to Japan....

Don't know the Techie bits but we have some very skilled people on here who can give you good advice..... =D>

Thank you all for the info. I'll start pulling the dash out looking for a yellow RCA Plug for composite video now. Hopefully I'll be able to one and try it on one of the screens I have. Watch this space!

I have got one of those but I couldn't work out which wires to use after taking out the japanese radio - so if you work it out I would be interested to know which wires you used.

OK so I'm having a bit of a struggle to get behind the dash - I have dropped out the 'glove' box and can see the LH side wiring but nothing there. I can't see a way of removing the blanking slot fitted above the dealer fitted Kenwood radio. Any ideas anyone?

Generally the blanking plate can be prised out from the front or with a push from behind if you can your hand up there. You could also start by removing the Kenwood stereo which will give better access.

I took mine out the other day - it turned out mine was sealed in with tiger seal or some equivalent black silicone. I had to cut it out with a knife.

With it being an original reversing camera it might not be a yellow RCA - they tend to be fitted to aftermarket - it could be anything you are looking for!
