My bongo has stopped starting
Hello bongonauts,
I'm new to bongo's and not very mechanically minded and recently bought a 2.5 diesel. I had problems starting and serviced it as it needed new glowplugs. That was fine and after service started 1st time. However a few weeks later I go to start it and it fails to start. It turns over but doesn't start and I notice no power in the cab. I thought it might be the battery but I charged it but still turns over but doesn't start and no power in the cab. The lights still work so could it be some electrical fault, a fuse gone?
I'm at a loss so any direction would be helpful.
Thanks
Neil

Have a search on here for 'fusible' and see what threads come up. I'm not saying it is the fusible link as I can't remember what stays working and what doesn't when it blows, but the threads also discuss things like glowplug relays and I wonder if your problem might be lurking somewhere in this general area. Good luck, keep us posted, I suspect its very sortable once problem is identified.Quincy MD wrote:Hello bongonauts,

Re: My bongo has stopped starting
What precisely do you mean by "no power in the cab" ?
Re: My bongo has stopped starting
Hello
The headlights work but the interior lights and radio don't work. I have a little volt meter for the cigarette sty!e socket and that is giving no reading. When I turn on the engine the coil light and usual dashboard lights come on but when I turn the engine the starter motor turns but doesn't start the engine. Any ideas?

Do you have a leisure battery? Sounds like the stuff not working may all be wired into that.

you say you changed the glow plugs, check the full length of the link between all 4 glow plug tops, the plastic coated brass link, it may have touched the top of the injector link pipes. it usually takes a while to rub through the plastic insulation then starts to weld to the metal pipes, if this has happened come back and give us a shout.

could be two different issues. As bob says the lights, radio could be a leisure battery thing.
The no start seems like no fuel is being pumped. Is there fuel in the bongo? Sorry for asking the obvious...just to rule it out though.

Re: My bongo has stopped starting
Do you have a leisure battery fitted as pointed out above several of the circuits you refer to as not lighting could easily have been switched over to a LB.
But also take a look at the top right and top left fuses in the fuse box by the drivers knee as these cover the circuits you refer to and make sure they are ok, or if you have a LB fitted then check those fuses on the LB fuse holder normally (but not always) under the bonnet close to the LB.

Thanks I'll check. When you say check do they look 'blown' or will I need some sort of meter? I think I might have a meter some where but I don't know how to use it!

Re: My bongo has stopped starting
If you look carefully down on the top they should have a clear section and you can see the state of the fuse, it helps if you have seen a blown one of course to compare! Otherwise extract and look in from the side and you should see a clearly defined hairpin shape without any breaks;

Thanks Geoff that's really useful. I'll have a look.
