Mazda Bongo 2000

Post by espo » Wed Mar 02, 2016 8:21 pm

Hi all you Bongo followers,
I have a Mazda Bongo 2000 diesel in the workshop with a rebuilt engine which the mechanic simply cannot get to run. I have invested £950 in an brand new engine control unit from Japan but there is still not a signal to the fuel pump to deliver the diesel. The car has now been off the road for some 18 months and the scrap yard beckons.
Obviously the mechanic is really embarrassed about it and blames it on the modern technology, fly-by-wire and so on.
I am at a loss and he is also. If there is a clever person out there who maybe can help then please come forward. I would be prepared to pay someone for their time if this problem can be solved.
This is last chance saloon for the old girl,
Help ! ! ! ! !

Bit more background info needed. Why was the engine rebuilt ? did it still run before it was rebuilt.
If there is no signal to the fuel pump you really need to start checking power supplies & earths to the ECU then continuity checks on the other wires to & from the ECU. wiring diagrams are available here > http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/
Sorry but not familiar with the later fly by wire diesel setup.
What part of the world are you in too ? that might help someone point you in the right direction of someone that can help

Engine was low compression and non-runner.

Diagrams only go up to the 1999 Sep versions, and even the last set I'm still working on - they changed the format of all the pages :-(

I've not got much experience of the drive by wire models but as a general rule with modern engines, there are more problems with sensors than ECU's so I would suggest checking working systematically through the fault finding processes described in the relevant engine technical manual.

Grab yourself a bargain anyone out there who understands later Bongo electronics.
