some useful reading, could be handy for the egr and variable vane turbos as well as the injection systems.

I am a believer, all hail the additives. Millers works for me (see sig and search it, hard to find a bad word said about it 10 tanks treatment from 1 bottle 1), used in petrol car and diesel Bongo. Quieter and smoother running, improved throttle response, no downsides that I am aware of.

It is a bit like putting Supreme Diesel or Super unleaded in but a lot less expensive way of doing it.

(My petrol car just shaved by the emissions test 2 years ago, 1 year of millers tanks later, went through with a very significant safety margin, must be doing good things for efficiency and emissions cleanliness)

BB123,just noticed that you vehicle can return 43MPG.

As a matter of interest is the EGR valve still functional or has it been blanked off .

mikeonb4c If you are reading this could I ask you the same question.

In my ignorance I am not sure where it is. (There is a lot of stuff down there  ) Would you be able to show us a photo of where it is please and I can respond after a check.

We have been using millers for the past year and I think it does make a difference. Engine does feel to run smoother and quieter. Not sure on economy have not checked that recently. We are 4wd diesel and always averaged around 24 mpg.

not necessarily easy to see as typically a washer/gasket is simply replaced by a blanking plate.
Here is obvious evidence (blue sealant) of "tampering" (= EGR blanking by me) at the inlet manifold end of the EGR pipe where it joins the manifold elbow. The blanking plate is brighter than the gasket it replaced.

The other end of the EGR pipe (the curvy one in the pic) is a little more buried but is blanked off exactly the same way. It does not have to be blanked at both ends.

Allan, Plymouth, does these plates for a very fair price.

with nice instruction sheet as well. Anybody doing the job just needs to go carefully with the bolts into the inlet manifold elbow, in which the threads strip oh so easily.

Next time I have that side open I will photograph it, looks like glow plug/driver side.

After reading this...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation

I kind of hope mine is in tact. Not bothered about power, I poodle along generally (and have never felt the Bongo is under powered, in fact the opposite, loads) and prefer to pollute less if possible. I guess if you blank it off you get full oxygen input, higher temps and thus more NO2. Nitrogen Dioxide which are giving diesels a bad name right now as it is carcinogenic.

Is that reasoning about right ?

yes all round!
Drivers side.
EGR lowers combustion temp, reducing NOx

The lower combustion temp is less efficient but efficiency is something your Bongo stars at!

Would there be any point/problems using something like Millers when running with a veg oil mix?

this is a good site if your into blending fuel, and it has additives,

https://www.oilybits.com/additives-for-fuels.html.

they seem to sell special additives for bio blends etc.
