Oil Pressure light

Post by stuc » Wed Dec 30, 2015 2:38 pm

Has anyone experienced the oil pressure light coming on after an oil and filter change plus rocker cover gasket tappets adjusted and glow plugs.
I have had it done locally and no light was on previously. Garage suggested it may have had some kind of additive in to prevent the light coming on. I have not heard of such an additive and the engine is sweet as a nut, no rattles knocks etc.
Anybody any ideas?

:---) ? Lucas oil stabilizer?

That would concern me. Worst I have had is that the oil light was slow to go out after starting. My fault, I had put in a cheapo filter [-X

Oil level ok? No leaks around rocker cover, oil filter, sump plug? Oil filler cap back on? Correct oil?

Takes me back a few years (decades), but I recall that the early symptom of poor oil pressure is the warning light coming on when you drop back to idle/low revs after the engine (and oil) has been running really thoroughly hot.

Never heard of putting in addative to stop the oil light coming on. :?

As Chris says, the cheap filters lack a valve to stop the oil running out when engine stopped but the light goes out once its refilled itself.

Is it on all the time or occassionaly?

I would not rule that out, there is a possibility that the Pressure control valve or the By pass valve have previously been sticking, if the pressure drops the first thing to shut down is the Piston Oil Jet.
I would strongly suggest getting the oil pressure tested as it only takes a couple of psi to put the light out.

presuming you have a 2.5td you are looking at these kind of figures.

WL Turbo : 402—480 kPa
{4.1—4.9 kgf/cm2, 59—69 psi}
[3,000 rpm]

No idea, but I still think it's a 2.0 petrol

Unless it's had an engine change recently

It would probably be less confusing if the persons asking for information/help would state make model year etc of the vehicle that they are referring too.
This is a rule on many motoring forums and saves a lot of time.

Sorry I've not checked back in but to confirm it is the 2.5 diesel I have bought, those figures will be very handy thank you. I have not got the car back yet. When I have it back in my possession I will do some digging and let you know.
The garage is well used to doing bongos, fitted quality oil and parts.
Hopefully it is nothing major. Something stuck sounds more likely as the car has stood for a few years.

Not got it back yet as I am concerned, It must be something to do with work carried out.
10W40 oil used
blue print filter used
What is involved adjusting the valve clearances on that engine, could something have been disturbed.
