Start up problems - not glow plugs!

Hi everyone,

My bongo has started messing around on start-up. I put in the key and turn it - all the dash lights come on and the coolant alarm sounds......when I turn it further - nothing!!!!!

If I take the key out a couple of times and try again it starts first time.

At first I thought it was a problem with the key, since my copy doesn't always unlock the doors and I thought this could be a continuation of that, but it doesn't seem to matter which key I use.....sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Any advice or ideas much appreciated.

Thanks

Jane

It might be worthwhile cleaning and tightening the battery terminals and the earth strap connection to the body also.

Good call. I got a new battery for mine after symptoms like that when I first bought it but suspected later it might have been just a loose battery terminal - doh! #-o

One of the starter motor kits cured my problems a few months ago but I'd go with the above advise first and check all your leads and connections before spending any money.

When mine did that a few times that recently, it was because I hadn't used it much and the times when I had used it, I'd left the lights on for several minutes each time, after I switched the engine off.
The battery was pretty drained. A long run put the charge back and sorted it.
Thank goodness for simple fixes!
Yours may have a different cause but it's worth considering.
