Fitting 6CD changer - preferred location

Post by hijimhere » Sun Nov 08, 2015 8:53 pm

Finally got a head unit that still has a Din 5 receptor for my 6 cd player - searched multi player but nothing found. The positive is that the unit I got is a cross over as it includes a USB and will also take an MP3. Modern units no longer have a Din 5 but do have the later technology. My question relates to where would be the preferred or best location. Oh just a mention if you try to google Din 5 radio/cd you end up with a mass of single din and double din pages. Quite frustrating but apart from installation pieces and the odd 7 din cable I resorted to emailing sellers on fleabay - you would be amazed how many don't know what a Din 5 receptor plug is.

Common place to mount CD changers is on the floor under the front bench seat. If the head unit is a different make to the CD changer then I'd be surprised if it just plugs in and works as each manufacturer tends to have their own wiring schemes even if the connectors are the same.

Hi,

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if you have an mp3 input why do you need a CD changer?

I used my changer for a couple of weeks until the novelty wore off, but I get my music from either a preloaded 64gb USB stick or an old 160gb Archos 605 into the analogue input.

Nope no stick - why spend hours recording music when I already have the best part of 120 tracks of my favourite stuff - Thank for the heads up on the connectors - the good news is that DIN connectors are 99% compatible but only when the male and female are connected so you need a unit, any unit that sports a Din 5 conversely a Din 7 is a whole different world fortunately Din 5 and Din 7 are not compatible. If I get to the point where it don't work it will then be binned.

The main thing I dislike about the 6 CD changer in a Bongo is there are not good options for mounting it where it isn't in harms way. The Bongo keeps its interior as clean and versatile as poss and mounting the CD changer under the middle bench seat (as I saw done on a Bongo I looked at when searching for one) immediately limits what can be done with that space plus you have to protect the CD changer more than otherwise.

Really, in this age of USB sticks etc, the CD changer is an all but obsolete bit of technology. Why not start afresh, and embrace the new :-)

I do embrace the technology - as do my sons one of whom is MTech works writing programs for a multi national legal company and the other is presently working for Siemens in their bespoke bus lane computer program support. We are a bit of a techno family and have been since desk tops that required 2 5 inch floppys lol. If I had my way I would be back to vinyl of which I have quite a few. I may use my phone and pad through the head unit as well as my changer. However if anyone want fill a stick with Motown,Northern Soul and Reiki (body and soul) to donate to me I probably would go all the way to technology, cheers. lol

Not meaning to sound facetious or anything but, with all the time spent searching fleabay etc, you could have filled many sticks with the excellent music you described, well, the first two anyway

In my everyday car, I've got a head unit with 6 disc changer built it and it was brilliant but on the downside, I had a pile of CDs in the glovebox. I had an iPod touch knocking around so fitted an adapter and now I have 100+ albums available within seconds and I can take it out and use it wherever I go. It's a far superior solution.
