Oil light briefly flashed

Post by sleepwalker » Thu Aug 20, 2015 8:03 pm

Hi all
On my normal journey to work roughly a minute or 2 after starting up my oil light flashed briefly, and subsequently went out, on 2 occasions. Any idea on root cause? I've recently had an oil change so was doubting its related to the actual oil level. Tried doing a search but couldn't find anything. Any ideas on what to check. Will dip the oil but wondering what else it could be.

Definitely start with the dip stick, basics first.

Possibly a new filter was fitted then took its share once the engine started?

I've a feeling the light has a level sensor as well ass pressure.

Yep...check the level.....it flashes when cold just after starting....then the oil expands as it gets hot and covers the level sensor.....
If it turns out the level is Good, check out all the connections.

Have they all got a level sensor ..??

The oil light on my V6 goes off the instant I crank the engine over and never comes on until the next re start ..

The oil warning light should go Out after you start the engine, it should not Flash, if it does Flash this would indicate Low Oil/Faulty oil switch/connections and the worst Low Oil Pressure.

I had a faulty/failing pressure switch/sensor on an old car of mine and that caused the warning light to flicker at low revs. A new one fixed the problem.
