Bongo Fury

turns out the compressor is U/S and I need a replacement - I have seen links to Bongo breakers - ideally it should be one that has been recently working - any views?

Search , Mazda bongo compressor, on eBay....loads on there

Double check the part number on yours with any you are considering as there have been a few variations over the years. It's not clear from your profile if yours is 2.5 diesel or petrol. If the latter, then there are definitely several a few versions over the years.

Thanks for replies - I had understood that the A/c compressor is a sensitive bit of engineering and doesn't like sitting around unlubricated by the oil in the coolant - I guess my question was about whether this is the case and can I take a chance on a unit from a ebay seller or is there a Bongo breaking specialist that I can be more confident of and that the item is in decent condition.

Most breakers just remove the parts label / mark them and put on shelves until sold, very few if any even test the units. Some will give you a guarantee and will replace the faulty supplied item, the one You want is the guarantee that covers return postage and package and (fitting and removing)labour costs, if you can get this deal I would say go for it

Maybe try a Bongo Fury member who is breaking his bus ..??

Surprised that bongospares hasn't been mentioned. they turn around a lot of bongos so maybe stuff does not sit on shelves too long.

Yawn. Here are some of the reasons we have these irritating rules in place.

1) Nobody objects to someone posting something along the lines of "I just want to recommend the good service I received from company xxx". That's fine. But....
2) .....but someone is always likely to chip in and say "that's not the experience I had". And give what appear to be good reasons for a grumble.
3) Company xxx then show up in the search facility and although there's only one negative comment, it's there for all to see.
4) Company xxx contacts Bongo Towers asking them to take the negative comment down as there are 2 sides to every argument etc. We refuse on the grounds of freedom-of-speech.
5) We receive a letter from solicitors saying if we don't remove it there will be consequences as we are ultimately responsible as we are the publishers.
6) We remove offending post and then receive complaints that discussion has been removed.

This (true) example was a minor irritant. In other instances we have had phone calls threatening violence. We can do without the hassle. And there have been too many other forums that have disintegrated in to a heap of shite because of arguments. I don't want it to happen here.

There's nothing wrong with getting opinions via PM if you need them. If you want to slag a company off do it via the dark-side Forum or Faceless book.

Also you posted this "Yes the rules on here are weird and the moderators spend a lot of time locking threads (shutting stable doors) after an improper post has been made (the horse has bolted). I feel for them, as removing (or editing) the small number of dodgy negative posts would probably be less time consuming, and when a garage etc. gets lots of good public reports it should motivate other garages etc. to want to get similar reports."
Whilst I'm glad to read that you feel for the extra work that the moderators have to do, that feeling would be more plausible if you refrained from posting such incorrect drivel on the subject Just because you don't like the rule, there's no need to keep incorrectly repeating yourself.

Thanks John, then I'll respond to people asking for advice about good dealers etc telling them what other have said. Or will the thread be locked before I can do that? I'm really trying to understand all this but the rules (or the interpretation of them) still seem in this case to be weird to me: I'm sure they were not intended to stop people recommending places they had heard good reports about from others on here. Did BF ever receive threatening calls after someone posted openly to say they had had (or posted openly to say they'd heard that others had had) good service from a place?

I hope the moderators will practice tolerance when someone continues to question what seems to them to be an illogical practice. We worked hard to promote tolerance on this forum - we don't want that to slip backwards.

I feel very uncomfortable having to take this stance on a forum I love (and being made to feel unwelcome for doing it, to be honest), but I still need persuading that our current practice is necessary or in line with the rules as conceived.
